The population of the city of Bern is growing: the resident population increased by 0.6% or 812 people in the first half of 2023, according to Statistics Bern. This is the largest increase in the resident population in the first half of the year for ten years.

The reasons for the growth are a positive migration balance on the one hand and a surplus of births on the other. In the first half of the year, 6,362 people moved to Bern, while 5,932 left the city. 286 of the new arrivals came from Ukraine. (ah)
