Zurich: Competition for the Centravo site has been decided
On the former Centravo site near the slaughterhouse, a new building is being constructed for the West police station and the Zurich City Archives. A 60-meter-high high-rise is planned.

The team from Adrian Streich Architekten, Schnetzer Puskas Ingenieure and Ganz Landschaftsarchitekt*innen from Zurich has won the competition for the new Wache West and the city archive.
The winning team proposed a high-rise building of around 60 meters on a large base for the new building on the former Centravo site near the slaughterhouse. The Fortepiano project arranges the rooms for the west station with parking halls for the fire department and ambulance vehicles as well as offices and staff rooms mainly in the base building from the first floor to the second floor. The city archive will be housed from the third floor up to the roof on the 15th floor. Public areas for users of the library and reading room are planned for the 14th and 15th floors. A café and a pavilion with a kiosk are planned for the forecourt facing Hohlstrasse.
The open space around the new building is to be planted with trees and designed with unsealed surfaces.
The cost-adjusted construction costs of the winning project are estimated - with a cost accuracy of +/-25% - at CHF 112 million, according to the City of Zurich. Added to this are expenses of CHF 5.8 million for the transfer of the land.
The city council, municipal council and the people of Zurich must approve the project loan. If the green light is given, construction work can begin in 2028, with completion scheduled for 2031. (ah)
