Allschwil: Ziegelei Ost site to become a neighborhood
The 45,000 square meter site of the former Passavant-Iselin brickworks is to provide commercial space and housing for up to 600 people.
The municipality of Allschwil, the owner Petrusso and the developer Bricks AG commissioned by it, as well as the canton of Basel-Landschaft, want to develop the Ziegelei-Ost site into a district. The plan is to attract small businesses and create living space for around 500 to 600 people. A public park is also to be created on the site.
A proposal by Pool Architekten, Westpol Landschaftsarchitekur, Zirkular and Deuring + Oehninger Ingenieure won the study commission. Among other things, it envisages an 80-metre high-rise building, the Lettenturm, as the prelude to the site. A "district hub" is planned for the first two storeys, which will house public-oriented uses such as a coffee bar, culture and events, according to the jury report. Three buildings are planned to the west of Hauptgasse, and five seven- to nine-storey "tree houses" for residential use are to be erected in the south-eastern part of the site. There are also plans to convert the existing factory buildings on the site for both commercial and residential use.
The neighborhood plan is now to be developed from the project. The residents' council is expected to be able to discuss the neighborhood plan in 2025, with the first building applications being submitted in 2027. The commercial and residential spaces are not expected to be occupied until 2030 at the earliest. (ah)
