In the southwest of Thun, the real estate department of Frutiger AG is developing the "Siegenthalergut" in collaboration with the city of Thun. A sustainable, future-oriented residential quarter for around 1,500 people is to be built on the five-hectare site. A large public park of 7,100 square meters and other public outdoor spaces are planned as defining elements. "The aim is to shape the entire development of the Siegenthalergut significantly through the open space," writes the city in a press release. A study contract was carried out for the design of the surrounding area, in which the proposal "Plus de jardins" by the Zurich office "Skala Landschaft Stadt Raum" has now emerged as the winning project. The new quarter is to be characterized by plenty of greenery and as a center "for everyone". With around 700 apartments, it will provide urgently needed living space. The city of Thun quotes its mayor Raphael Lanz as follows: "The 'Plus de jardins' open space concept is convincing in terms of design, ecology and urban planning. It also creates optimal conditions for the park as a future meeting place for the entire district". Public participation should be at the heart of the project. "Residents in particular have the opportunity to get involved, and two people from the neighborhood were even involved in the study commission process. That was a very valuable and constructive collaboration," said city president Raphael Lanz.

Start of construction in 2027 at the earliest

In order to implement the project, a new zone with a planning obligation must be created. This is expected to go out to public consultation towards the end of 2023. In the next phase, a concept will be drawn up on how Hohmadstrasse and Burgerstrasse should be designed and used. Suggestions from the public will be taken into account. The findings from this process will be incorporated into the master plan, which will form the basis for the development regulations (UeO) and the architectural competition. Construction will start in 2027 at the earliest, with occupation conceivable in 2029. (aw)
