Work has begun on the third and final stage of the "Visavie" development on the industrial site of the former Vereinigte Drahtwerke in Biel. The official laying of the foundation stone will take place on October 17, according to the developer, Espace Real Estate. The ground-breaking ceremony already took place in June. The new building with a total of 76 apartments is expected to be ready for occupancy in fall 2025.

Espace has owned the entire factory site since 2001. The company had the old factory buildings to the north-west of the small Schüss demolished, the contaminated sites cleaned up and the terrain prepared for a new development. The Schüss was renaturalized and parts of the site were sold. Work on "Visavie" began in 2012. The first building was ready for occupation in spring 2015, and the second, with construction starting in 2017, was ready for occupation two years later.

The third building will be realized for an investment sum of CHF 25.8 million and will be constructed in accordance with the SNBS standard for sustainable construction. The main usable area is 5,350 square meters. The apartment mix comprises 18 units with 4.5 rooms, 4 with 3.5 rooms and 4 with 1.5 rooms, as well as 25 apartments with 2.5 rooms and 21 studios. In addition, the Dessaules Foundation will manage 13 care rooms in the building. The foundation is also already represented with residential groups in the first two residential buildings on Schwanengasse. (aw)
