Bern: Wankdorfcity 3 goes into implementation
The Immofonds wants to use the project to build a new district in Bern; the realization partner is HRS Real Estate. The building application is due to be submitted at the beginning of 2024, with the first spaces ready for occupation three years later.
Wankdorfcity 3, a new district in Bern, aims to reinterpret urban coexistence - the Immofonds project pursues the vision of a "stacked city". On an area of around 34,000 square meters, a new, high-density district with a floor area of over 100,000 square meters for living, working and leisure is being built on the current commercial site north of the Wankdorf S-Bahn station.
The project, for which the building application is due to be submitted in early 2024, comprises around 500 rental apartments of various sizes and typologies, including tiny houses, cluster apartments and detached houses. There will also be more than 50,000 square meters of space for services, commerce, offices and public uses. Completion is planned for 2029, with the first areas ready for occupation in stages from 2027. The real estate fund's realization partner is HRS Real Estate.
A special feature of the project is the green "city terrace", which is 30 meters above the ground. It is intended to offer residents a second first floor and provides various outdoor spaces. Both apartments and communal areas, such as a games room, a communal living room and studio spaces, are arranged along the terrace. The heart of Wankdorfcity 3 will be the historic Shedhalle. It will be gently renovated, and the front section will provide space for restaurants and cultural venues.
Wankdorfcity 3 will be designed according to the "sponge city" principle, will be 2000-watt-compatible and all the energy for its operation will come from renewable resources, the Immofonds reports. (ah)
