Bern: New use for the PTT high-rise building
The development center of the former PTT, a striking high-rise building in the east of Bern, is being revitalized and converted into a residential property.
The Turidomus investment foundation managed by Pensimo and HRS Real Estate will revitalize the former PTT research and development center over the next two years. From 2026, the striking high-rise building in the east of Bern will include a daycare center on the first floor and 87 loft-style rental apartments (1.5-5.5 rooms) on the 17 upper floors, as well as a communal roof terrace at a height of 75 meters. According to HRS, the apartments will have an above-average ceiling height and a solid fit-out standard and offer a "magnificent view of the Bernese Alps".
In the next few years, the bus connection - there is a stop right in front of the building - will be replaced by a new streetcar line, which will take you to Bern's city center in just a few minutes. By converting the currently vacant commercial and office space, the building will help to promote inward development and housing supply within the city limits. The use of the existing load-bearing structures significantly reduces the CO2 emissions for construction compared to a new building. Completion and occupation are scheduled for spring 2026. (bw)
