Zurich: Competition for 200 apartments decided
In Felsenrain, Enzmann Fischer Partner is planning to create a pioneering housing estate where several generations can live together.
The City of Zurich Retirement Homes Foundation (SAW) and the City of Zurich Family Homes Foundation (SFW) are planning a high-density development in Felsenrain in cooperation with the city's health centers for the elderly. The project by Enzmann Fischer Partner and Skala Landschaft Stadt Raum and Archipel from Zurich won the associated architectural competition.
The project of the two municipal foundations is being built on the site of the current SAW Felsenrain housing estate, where a pioneering intergenerational housing development is to be built by 2031. To the south of Seebach railroad station, over 200 retirement apartments, a good 35 family apartments and 24 places in two residential care groups are planned.
The winning project envisages three compact buildings. House A, with its address on Felsenrainstrasse, will house retirement apartments, the two residential care groups and a double kindergarten. House B is designed as a long building in the center of the site and is intended for multi-generational living. It will include retirement and family apartments as well as shared indoor and outdoor spaces. House C on the eastern side of the site will provide space for the "Zurich in Old Age" advice center and a café, as well as apartments for the elderly on the upper floors.
Ten project teams took part in the open architectural competition in a selective procedure. (aw)
