The oldest cargo halls at Zurich Airport date back to the 1950s and 1960s and no longer meet today's requirements. For this reason, Flughafen Zürich AG is building a new cargo hall in the east of the airport. Work on the "Fracht Rächtenwisen" will begin in April.

The building will have an area of almost 9,500 square meters and will include 20 docking ramps for trucks, areas for import and export processes as well as for customs and security checks. There are also special areas for handling pharmaceutical and hazardous goods. A mezzanine floor for offices is planned on the south side of the building. The new freight hall will be built as a concrete column construction with a timber supporting structure and a photovoltaic system on the roof.

Once completed, the new Rächtenwisen freight hall will be rented and used by Dnata Switzerland AG, a service provider in the ground handling and freight sector. Flughafen Zürich AG expects the facility to open in 2027. (aw)
