Allschwil: Pension fund plans residential development
Adimmo, a subsidiary of the Basellandische Pensionskasse, will be constructing two buildings with 77 rental apartments and commercial space from next year.

A new development with 77 rental apartments and commercial space on the first floor is being built at Baslerstrasse 160 to 166 in Allschwil. According to a press release, work on the site is set to begin in 2025. The Basellandschaftliche Pensionskasse (BLPK) is the owner of the property and the three existing apartment buildings from the 1940s. It gave the green light for a new construction project on April 24, 2024. The existing buildings will be demolished and replaced by two new buildings.
Designs from the Burckhardt office
The decision was preceded by a study commission involving five participating teams of architects, in which the design by Basel-based Burckhardt Architektur was unanimously chosen as the winner. This envisages a high-rise building with ten floors above ground at the road junction and a staggered building with five and six floors respectively next to it. The planned 77 apartments are intended to complement the existing housing mix on the site. "With the more compact apartments in the high-rise building, we are primarily targeting smaller, urban households, while the larger apartments in the terraced building are designed with families in mind," says Thomas Haueter, who represents BLPK as the project manager.
The family apartments face the quiet garden side. Between the two buildings, space will be left for a public space that connects the rear part of the site development with Baslerstrasse. On the garden side, part of the existing above-ground visitor parking spaces will be relocated to a new underground garage in favor of a larger green space. The street-side forecourt is intended as an access area for both buildings. The buildings are designed according to the Minergie-P standard and are to be heated using heat pumps and supplied with electricity from a photovoltaic system.
BLPK accommodated Allschwil
The background to the project: As part of the "Allschwil 2035 spatial development concept", the municipal council decided to upgrade Baslerstrasse in terms of urban development, including a redesign of the Ziegelei bus stop and the associated traffic circle. Part of the BLPK property was required for this project. The pension fund complied with the request and had the options for the further development of the site examined in this context. This resulted in the planned new building project. It is being carried out by Adimmo AG, a wholly owned subsidiary of BLPK that manages its entire real estate portfolio. (aw)
