Flums: Abendrot starts conversion of former spinning mill
The pension fund is planning 100 rental apartments and commercial space based on designs by Hotz architects.

The Abendrot Foundation is starting construction work on the "Flumserei", the industrial site of the former Spoerry spinning mill in Flums (SG). Abendrot is being supported in the implementation by the architectural firm Hotz+Partner from Wädenswil, which examined the previous project and looked for potential improvements. The current project now envisages over 100 rental apartments. According to the plans, the former workshops behind the main building are to be retained and become a lively Werkgasse. Commercial space in the main building will also continue the industrial history of the Flumserei.
Construction work on the main building will now begin on May 21. The first step will be to clean up the pollutants, which is expected to last until the end of the year. The actual residential construction project will then begin.
The conversion concept envisages "attractively priced" apartments in the historic main building. Some of them are also to be offered as residential studios and for private conversions. Loggias are planned as outdoor spaces on the standard floors and private outdoor areas on the roof. The concept also includes communal indoor and outdoor spaces. "Complemented by the various commercial uses, this creates a lively place with a village-like character," writes Abendrot.
Abendrot acquired the site from Innobas AG in 2020, when there was talk of 80 apartments. (aw)
