Basel: Three non-profit developers for "Volta Nord"
A consortium consisting of Logis Suisse, Homebase and Wohngenossenschaft Hegenheimerstrasse has won the competition for a construction site with 200 apartments. The government council has already approved the award.
The canton is handing over part of the land on the Volta Nord site in Basel to three non-profit housing developers under building rights. The cantonal government recently approved a corresponding declaration of intent for the transfer of building rights to Logis Suisse AG, Homebase Genossenschaft and Wohngenossenschaft Hegenheimerstrasse.
Accommodation for over 1,500 people
Around 2,000 to 2,500 jobs and living space for 1,500 to 2,000 people are currently being created on the former Volta Nord commercial and industrial site, also known as the Lysbüchel site. The canton is building around 140 affordable apartments on "Baufeld 5" as its own investment. The areas on "Baufeld 4", on the other hand, are intended for non-profit housing developers. The Regional Association of Housing Cooperatives of Northwestern Switzerland, in collaboration with the canton, held a concept competition for the allocation of this area. This was won by the three non-profit organizations mentioned above.
As part of the winning project, around 200 affordable apartments with a variety of floor plans and a high level of functionality are to be built by 2029 - both family and retirement apartments as well as small apartments for individuals and apartments for self-build. The construction site will be divided between the three housing developers. "With a joint management and operating concept for the outdoor spaces, for the commercially used areas on the first floor and for the communal areas, the parties involved are making clever use of the existing synergy potential," the canton writes in a press release.
The housing cooperatives benefit from an initially reduced building lease rate, but in return must meet conditions such as social mix and construction standards. (aw)
