Chur: New university of applied sciences can be built
The building permit for the largest construction project in Graubünden, with investment costs of almost 180 million Swiss francs, has been granted.
The cantonal building construction office received the building permit for the new Graubünden University of Applied Sciences Center from the city of Chur at the beginning of June. This sets the course for the start of construction in spring 2025. The opening is planned for 2028. The building application was submitted three months ago. It is currently the largest construction project in Graubünden.
A few weeks ago, work began on the Pulvermühle site in Chur with the initial demolition of the existing buildings and the rerouting of a stream. The previous spring, the Grisons electorate approved the project by over 83 %. The total investment for the complex, which will provide space for 2,000 students and staff, is expected to amount to around CHF 178 million. Today, the university of applied sciences is still spread across five locations in nine buildings in the city of Chur. The new building will concentrate teaching and research at one location.
The new building is being realized under the leadership of the architectural firm Giuliani Hönger Architekten from Zurich. They won the project competition in 2021. (aw)
