Zurich: Future of large catering space on Europaallee clarified
Migros is abandoning its prestigious 2,000 m² "Bridge" project in a prominent Zurich location. The retail area fell short of expectations.
On January 1, Pons Culinaris AG will take over the "Bridge" gastronomy and food retail concept from the Migros Cooperative Zurich. The concept and location on Europaallee will be retained, Migros announced in a press release. Pons Culinaris is backed by an association of Zurich gastronomy entrepreneurs and food retailers. With offerings such as Pasta Mercato, the players are already present at the location and are also active in other places in Zurich, such as Lily's in the Löwenbräu area and the Markthalle restaurant in the Viadukt.
The existing concept of "Bridge" on Europaallee will be "further developed", according to the statement. Migros Zurich opened Bridge in April 2021. The problem apparently: the retail area of Bridge fell short of expectations, while the gastronomy offering has become increasingly popular. "In view of the trend towards gastronomy, Migros Zurich has decided to hand over the popular meeting place on Europaallee to new hands."
There had been speculation for some time about the future of the 2,000 square meter space right next to the main station. When asked, Migros has so far been unwilling to make a clear commitment to the continuation of the concept (IB reported). (aw)
