Zurich: 123 new apartments planned in the Friesenberg district
With a land deal, the city is enabling more cooperative apartments in the neighborhood. In the long term, up to 500 apartments are to be built.
The city of Zurich wants to enable additional cooperative apartments in the Friesenberg district. According to a press release, the Familienheim-Genossenschaft Zürich is to significantly increase the density of the neighborhood and receive two street plots at a reduced price in accordance with a decision by the city council. The plans envisage the partial development of Grossalbis, currently comprising 74 terraced single-family houses, being replaced by six residential buildings with 123 apartments. A kindergarten, an underground collective garage and a new energy center are also to be created as part of this process. In return, the city is to receive land from the FGZ for the two street plots. According to a statement from the City of Zurich, the exchange of the road plots in question will result in a loss of revenue of CHF 2.2 million. This is because the transfer is based on the "reference value" and not the market value.
A master plan was drawn up as a framework for future planning and the resulting adjustments to the land use plan. In total, around 500 new non-profit apartments are to be gradually built in the Friesenberg district by 2050. (aw)
