Bernese Oberland: New luxury hotel planned
In the mountain village of Wengen, a company from Cham wants to construct seven new buildings with over 200 beds in hotel-style vacation apartments.

A new luxury hotel is to be built in Wengen in the Bernese Oberland. This is the result of a building application submitted to the municipality of Lauterbrunnen. The plans include a 5-star hotel complex comprising 44 tourist apartments with 238 guest beds in seven residential buildings and a staff building. Two restaurants with 194 indoor and 70 outdoor seats and a staff building with 19 rooms are also part of the project, which was first reported on by SRF. The planned site in the Galliweidli area is located on the northern edge of the mountain village, below the forest. According to SRF, the cost of the "W5 Luxury Suites" is estimated at CHF 84 million. As the investors told the broadcaster, the hotel and serviced apartments are due to open in 2028. They see Wengen as a "more exclusive alternative" to tourist destinations such as Zermatt or St. Moritz. (aw)
