Basel: Green light for high-rise building on the Heuwaage
According to a newspaper report, there is now legal certainty for the project, which envisages the construction of a striking high-rise building for a pension fund.

The Steinentor high-rise in Basel can be built, reports the "Basler Zeitung". Although the appeal process is not yet formally complete, nothing stands in the way of the building permit now that the objections have been rejected. The newspaper quotes Georg Meier from Adimmo as saying: "The building permit for the Heuwaage high-rise can be considered legally binding, as there are no more appeals pending." Adimmo is working for the owner, the Basellandschaftliche Pensionskasse (BLPK). A project start in the fall is now possible.
Designs by Miller & Maranta
In place of an existing high-rise residential building, a new building approximately twice as high with almost 70 apartments is to be built. It has been clear for eight years that plans by Miller and Maranta will be realized. The construction sum for the 74 m high building with a pentagonal floor plan was stated in the planning application as CHF 85 million. The building also includes retail and restaurant space.
One of the objections was submitted by the Basel Tenants' Association. According to the "Basler Zeitung", it criticized aspects of residential protection law as well as the number and location of bicycle parking spaces. Their accessibility by lift in the basement was criticized as unreasonable.
The new high-rise building will be located at the entrance to Steinenvorstadt. One of Basel's seven city gates was once located at the Heuwaage. The existing building was constructed in 1955 according to designs by Arnold Gfeller. (aw)
