The Flexbase Group has received the building permit for the Laufenburg Technology Center (TZL). According to the company, the construction project includes the creation of the world's largest battery storage facility and a data center for artificial intelligence (AI). The official ground-breaking ceremony will take place in the coming weeks. Full commissioning is planned for summer 2028.

The TZL is being built on a site at the "Star of Laufenburg" power hub, where 41 border lines cross. The AI data center will be operated using water cooling and the waste heat from the data center will be fed into a district heating network. Laufenburg's old town will also be supplied with district heating from the existing data centers in the Flexbase operations building.

The new technology center is being built by the Laufenburg-based Erne Group. As the general contractor, it is responsible for construction management and the construction of the entire building. The construction work for the 20,000 square meter building will be carried out by various Erne subsidiaries. These include structural and civil engineering as well as the building envelope and façade. (aw)
