Zurich: Vote on new apartments in Altstetten
230 municipal apartments are to be built for just under 120 million francs. The voters will soon have their say.

On May 18. Zurich voters will decide on a residential project in Altstetten, among other things. The city is planning to replace the Salzweg housing estate with 230 apartments. There are currently 130 residential units in the 50-year-old estate, and a third of the new apartments will be subsidized. In addition, communal rooms, a double kindergarten and day care centers are planned. The costs amount to CHF 118.7 million.
According to earlier plans up to 190 new apartments were to be built. The designs for the new development were drawn up by Architektur Zimmermann Sutter Architekten from Zurich, while Landschaftsarchitektur Freiraumarchitektur GmbH from Lucerne was responsible for the open spaces. The two won a competition with 43 applicant teams in 2021.
