Aerial tramway in Obwalden starts up again in 2016

The Obwalden aerial tramway, which has been out of service since 2013, is to be given a new lease of life. Local investor Theo Breisacher is planning the construction of a new building and the renovation of the railroad facilities. The reopening is planned for May 2016, as the "Obwaldner Zeitung" writes.

In addition, a new operations and administration building with five rental apartments is to be built at the bottom station in Lungern-Obsee. A restaurant in the immediate vicinity of the top station of the ropeway is also being considered in the medium term, it is said. The first preparatory work at the bottom station is scheduled to start in August.

Breisacher, together with the specially founded Lungern-Turren-Bahn AG, takes over the decommissioned aerial tramway in Obwalden as well as three plots of land from the sub-same Lungern-Obsee. According to the "Obwaldner Zeitung", the purchase price amounts to 10,000 francs plus debts. The newly founded AG has a share capital of 5 million francs. (mr)
