Basel: Green light for overbuilding at Bachgraben

A new development is being built near the Bachgraben swimming pool in Basel, on the outskirts of the city towards Allschwil and Hegenheim. The Wohnstadt Basel cooperative is planning a building with 68 apartments, and parallel to the cooperative building, the canton is realizing a residential home for people with disabilities on the site.

Wohnstadt says it expects to be able to start construction work in 2016 on the "Almendra" project by Burckhardt Partner from Basel, which emerged as the winner of the project competition between five architectural firms. The Basel government has approved the building lease agreement and the building application has been submitted.

Two-and-a-half to four-and-a-half-room apartments will be built. In addition to individuals, couples and families, students in shared apartments will also find a place to stay there. Wohnstadt has held preliminary talks with the student housing association WoVe. The rent for a two-and-a-half-room apartment will be between CHF 1,400 and 1,600, for four-and-a-half rooms CHF 2,000 to 2,200 net. (ah)
