Housing: Minimal increase in asking rents

In December 2015, asking rents rose slightly by 0.09 percent across Switzerland. Compared with the same month a year earlier, rents in Switzerland rose by 0.62 percent. This is the result of the Homegate.ch asking rent index, which is compiled by the real estate portal Homegate.ch and Zürcher Kantonalbank (ZKB).

The Homegate.ch asking rent index measures the monthly, quality-adjusted change in rents for new and re-let apartments based on current market offers.

In the canton Zurich in December, asking rents rise by 0.51 percent to a score of 117.3. Looking at the same month last year, the result is an increase of around 0.95 percent.

In the canton Bern asking rents fall by a further 0.09% to an index level of 110.4 points. Compared with the same month a year earlier, however, asking rents are up 0.73 percent.

The asking rents in the canton Lucerne rise by 0.85 percent in December 2015 to an index level of 118.7 points. Compared with the same month a year earlier, rents are up 1.02 percent.

In the cantons Basel City and Basel Country asking rents rise by 0.09 percent and reach an index level of 111 points. Compared with the previous year, rents are up 1.93 percent.

In the cantons Vaud and Geneva asking rents fall by 0.89 percent to an index level of 123.0 points. Compared with the same month a year ago, asking rents are up 0.57 percent.

In the canton Ticino asking rents fall by 0.27 percent to an index level of 109.5 points. In a 12-month comparison, prices are rising by 1.01 percent. (ah)
