"It is fantastic to be able to count on such a competent partner with a high level of expertise" Toni Bucher, Chairman of the Board of Directors Eberli Sarnen AG

"It is fantastic to be able to count on such a competent partner with a high level of expertise," says Toni Bucher, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Eberli Sarnen AG, the developer of the Pilatus Arena and its mantle use. "We are very much looking forward to the joint development and realization of this exciting project," emphasizes Kurt Ernst Baumann, Head of Real Estate Projects Switzerland at Helvetia Insurance. After realization, Helvetia will take over the management of the apartments as owner.

A high-rise building - in particular with apartments - is to be built around the Pilatus Arena as a shell use. The project is based on the successful example of the Swissporarena on the Allmend. According to current estimates, the total investment in Kriens will amount to over 200 million Swiss francs, of which the Pilatus Arena will cost around 30 million Swiss francs. The Pilatus Arena will be financed by contributions from the canton (4 to 6 million Swiss francs from the Swisslos sports fund) and the federal government (3 million from the National Sports Facilities Concept NASAK), by private investors and by the levy of added value resulting from a higher utilization rate on the site.

The Pilatus Arena is scheduled to open in 2019 as a new type of sports and event arena with national and international appeal and seating for up to 4,000 spectators. Last Sunday (February 28, 2016), the population of the property owner, the City of Lucerne, had approved a purchase right agreement with a large majority. The next step will be to invite tenders for an architectural competition in the course of the summer. It will show how the hall and an attractive residential use can be realized on the relatively narrow site. (mr)
