Axa Winterthur has prevailed in a public bidding process against 25 other interested buyers, the State Chancellery of Solothurn announces. The parties have agreed not to disclose the sales price.

With the purchase of the site, Axa Winterthur has been commissioned to build a high-quality three- to five-story residential development with 130 residential units. The new development is to be built to the Minergie standard and connected to the Regio Energie district heating network. The former administration building of the penal institution, the manor house and the Stöckli are to be preserved and converted.

An approved design plan already exists for the site, which is in the immediate vicinity of the hospital and the city of Solothurn. Axa Winterthur says it is aiming to start construction work as soon as possible so that the development will ideally be ready for occupation in the second half of 2019. The project is being planned by the architectural firm Egli Rohr Partner AG Architekten from Baden. (ah)
