Worb: Housing construction to combat population decline
Three developments with a total of 150 new apartments are planned in Worb in the Bern agglomeration. The projects are currently in the building permit phase.

The Burgergemeinde Bern as the building owner is planning, according to a report of the Bernese newspaper The "Sunnebode" residential complex is being built on Lauigasse. Three buildings with 20 rental apartments each are to be built. The deadline for objections to the building application expired a few days ago. Provided that no objections delay the start of construction, the excavators are scheduled to drive up in spring 2017.
Dreiklang Hofmatt AG, a consortium of Worber companies, plans to build three buildings with a total of 60 condominiums and rental apartments on a municipally owned plot of land in front of the ice rink. The "Dreiklang" development is scheduled to be ready for occupancy in 2018. However, an objection to the project is pending from the Hawo housing cooperative. The objectors are demanding that the project be put to the vote again because it differs from the approved project. The municipal council, however, is of the opinion that there was a public planning procedure for the modified project in which the legal remedies were not taken, reports the Bernese newspaper.
With the residential projects, the Worb municipal council hopes to maintain or even increase the population. For years, the number of inhabitants in the municipality near Bern has been declining. (ah)
