Bern: Nursing school becomes living space
A residential development is to be built on the site of the former Engeried nursing school in Bern. The Directorate of Finance, Human Resources and IT, as the client, has launched a single-stage architectural competition in an open procedure.

The development is being built on the site at Reichenbachstrasse 118 in the middle of the Enge peninsula, around three kilometers from the city center and directly adjacent to the Reichenbachwald forest. The Fonds für Boden- und Wohnbaupolitik wants to build 100 percent non-profit housing at cost rents. The planned 100 or so apartments are to be made available mainly to families with children, while around 20 percent of the apartments are to be affordable and built to a low standard.
Project proposals can be submitted until the beginning of April 2017 and the competition entries will be judged in August 2017. (ah)
