Zurich: Ground-breaking ceremony for PWG residential project
On January 23, the groundbreaking ceremony for a superstructure of the PWG Foundation in Zurich-Witikon will be celebrated.
PWG is building two residential buildings with 38 apartments, mainly for families, at Witikonerstrasse 517-521. The new buildings are scheduled for completion in 2020, with an investment volume of CHF 21.4 million. It is the largest project realized by the foundation so far.
"Rents will be at least a third below market levels," says PWG managing director Jürg Steiner. A 4.5-room apartment is expected to cost between CHF 1,940 and 2,200 per month. With the new construction project, the foundation wants to create living space primarily for families: More than half of the apartments will have 4.5 or 5.5 rooms. Today, many older people live in the neighborhood, but because of a direct bus connection to the city center, Witikon should also be attractive to younger people, the developer believes.
The new buildings were planned in such a way that two older buildings with low rents can be retained on the site. The design comes from the Zurich architectural firm Baumberger & Stegmeier, which won the study contract in 2014. The project is one of currently five new buildings of the PWG Foundation with a total of 139 affordable apartments.
