By 2035, 505,000 people will live in the city of Zurich, 76,000 more than last year. The city's population will continue to grow by 5,000 to 8,000 people annually until 2025, after which the increase will probably slow to 2,000 to 3,000 per year, according to Statistik Stadt Zürich. The historic peak of 440,180 residents in 1962 is expected to be surpassed in 2021, it said.

The statisticians expect population growth in all districts. The percentage growth will be particularly high in Saatlen, Hirzenbach, Escher Wyss (+38% each) and Seebach (+36%). The strongest growth in absolute terms will be in Seebach (+9,300 persons), Altstetten (+6,800), Affoltern (+5,100) and Hirzenbach (+4,900). Growth is being driven by intensive current construction activity and planned building projects, such as in Wollishofen, Escher Wyss, Altstetten and Seebach, or by significant building reserves, such as in Altstetten, Seebach, Saatlen and Hirzenbach.

According to the calculations, the 20-39 age group will increase by only 4% or 7,000 persons, but the other age groups will grow significantly by 2035. The largest growth (+53%, +16,000 persons) is expected among young people between the ages of ten and 19. The age group 40 to 69 will also grow by 25% or 37,000 persons. (ah)
