Home ownership more than six percent more expensive in 2022
Both the prices of single-family houses and owner-occupied apartments rose sharply in 2022. In urban communities of large conurbations, however, they fell slightly.
The average annual inflation for residential property in 2022 was 6.4%, according to figures from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO). The prices of single-family houses rose last year by an average of 7.3% and the prices of condominiums by an average of 5.6%, the FSO says.
In the fourth quarter of 2022, prices increased for both single-family homes (+2.0%) and condominiums (+0.5%).
According to the FSO, the price increase was strong in rural municipalities, and somewhat stronger for single-family houses (+5.5%) than for condominiums (+3.8%). On the other hand, prices in urban municipalities of a large agglomeration decreased the most significantly. The FSO registered a slight decline in the fourth quarter in the conurbations of Zurich, Basel, Bern, Lausanne and Geneva. (ah)
