Retail trade: sales decline
Sales in the Swiss retail trade fell in May 2015 compared with the same month of the previous year. Adjusted for sales and holiday effects, the retail trade (excluding fuel) recorded a 1.6 percent decline in real sales in May 2015 compared with May 2014 (nominal -3.4%), according to a media release from the Federal Statistical Office.
Retail trade in food, beverages and tobacco recorded a decrease of 0.5 percent compared with May 2014 (nominal -1.5%), while the non-food sector (excluding fuels) posted a real decline of 2.2 percent (nominal -4.9%). Compared to April 2015, the retail sector registered a real sales decline of 1.5 percent in May 2015 (nominal -1.8%). (ah)
