Realignment for Shopping Center Stücki
The Stücki shopping center in Basel's Kleinhüningen district is changing course. According to a report in the "Badische Zeitung," Tim Mayer's management wants to focus more on leisure activities in the future. In a first step, around one sixth of the space is to be converted for this purpose by the beginning of 2016.

The Stücki shopping center, which is part of the Swiss Prime Site portfolio and has been operated by ECE since 2014, has not had an easy time since it opened six years ago. With an area of 32,000 sqm, it is the largest shopping center in northwestern Switzerland and the neighboring regions in southern Baden and Alsace. Originally, the Stücki was to be established as a shopping center for the trinational region of Basel, but this has been overtaken by currency developments. Now, according to the newspaper report, another attempt is to be made to better position the property on the market.
Currently, nearly 5,000 sq. ft. on the second floor is being redesigned for recreational uses: 2,000 sq. ft. will be a fitness studio, and another 2,500 sq. ft. will become an indoor playground. As center manager Mayer says, further shifts are conceivable. The gastronomic area will also be readjusted, in particular more sit-down restaurants are planned. The number of retail stores, which was 120 in the early days and is currently just under 90, will tend to decline further with the development. Areas will be consolidated, resulting in larger stores.
