Delicatessen chain Eataly aims for Switzerland
The delicatessen chain Eataly Distribuzione and Signa Holding are setting up a joint venture to expand the concept in German-speaking Switzerland, Germany and Austria.
The first location to be opened at the end of 2015 will be an Eataly flagship store in Munich in the Schrannenhalle directly at the Viktualienmarkt. On 4,600 square meters there will be a delicatessen, restaurants, training rooms and a production of Italian food.
Dr. Stephan Fanderl, Karstadt CEO and Managing Director of SIGNA Retail, says: "Our joint venture envisages a business plan with further expansion in at least five locations by 2021." He says it is conceivable to implement Eataly as an overall concept, as with the start-up project in Munich. Individual concept elements could also be implemented on smaller sites. For example, the addition of LeBuffet formats or the conversion of LeBuffet spaces into Eataly stores are being examined.
Eataly now operates 26 locations worldwide in the U.S., Brazil, Dubai, Japan, South Korea, Turkey and Italy and is considered one of the fastest growing food service and retail companies. Last year, Eataly generated around 400 million euros in sales. (ah)
