Ikea considers sale of "Walige Shopping"
According to a report in the "Handelszeitung", the Swedish furniture group is considering the sale of its retail park "Walige Shopping" in Rothenburg near Lucerne.
Like Bloomberg first reported, Ikea is streamlining its real estate portfolio and disposing of properties that no longer fit into the portfolio. 27 Ikea retail parks in Europe worth around CHF 1 billion are to change hands, twelve of them in Germany. After the sale, 25 parks will remain.
Affected by the change in strategy, according to Handelszeitung Walige Shopping" in Rothenburg, which only opened in 2013. At the time, Ikea invested CHF 26 million in a branch of the furniture store and a shopping center with 5,700 m² of space. The tenants include Ochsner Sport, Melectronics, Dosenbach and Chicoree, and there is also a fitness center. According to an Ikea spokesperson, the retail park no longer fits in with the company's strategy of making the shopping centers "inspiring and family-friendly meeting places for many people".
