Ilanz: New Coop shopping center
ZIMA Projektentwicklung AG is building a shopping center in the Grüneck commercial zone in Ilanz; the building application has now been submitted. A new Coop supermarket is being built on the site where a Coop Bau+Hobby is already located. Coop is investing CHF 25 million in the construction project.

The supermarket with 2,000 square meters of sales area, including a kiosk and flower department, will be connected to Bau+Hobby via a walkway. The building will be constructed to low-energy standards, and the plan is to install a photovoltaic system on the roof that will supply up to 200,000 kilowatt hours of electricity a year. This corresponds to the needs of around 60 households.
"The new Coop will be complemented by the café/bistro of a local operator as well as a gas station with car wash and a gas station store," says Elmar Girardi, managing director of ZIMA Projektentwicklung. Negotiations with other potential tenants are underway. The goal is to start construction in spring 2017, he said. The opening is planned for early 2018.
For Coop, the new location is ideal for two reasons: "Firstly, the synergies between the supermarket and Bau+Hobby can be ideally exploited. Secondly, thanks to the new cantonal road, access to the supermarket from both directions in Surselva and from the Lugnez/Obersaxen area is improved," says Klaus Sedlmeyer, Head of Real Estate at Coop Ostschweiz. It has not yet been decided what will happen to the existing outlet. (ah)
