Bern: SPS presents its plans for Schönburg
Swiss Prime Site AG (SPS) presented its plans for the conversion of Schönburg in Bern on November 10. The architecturally valuable building from 1970, originally the headquarters of the Swiss Post Office, has been owned by the real estate company since 2014.

While retaining the existing structure, 135 high-quality rental apartments (2.5 - 5.5 rooms), a hotel, retail space and "sports and relaxation facilities" are to be built, SPS informs. SPS estimates the investment volume at CHF 130 million. Completion is projected for the end of 2019.
The operator of the planned hotel will be the design hotel chain Prizeotel, which has so far only been represented in Germany and will make its entry into the Swiss market in Bern. The existing hotels of the award-winning brand were designed by the well-known New York designer Karim Rashid, are characterized by a central location and thus quick access to all major tourist attractions.
As SPS further announces, Coop could be won as a tenant. The retailer will set up a supermarket with more than 8,000 products for daily needs on an area of more than 800 square meters. The project also includes a fitness center operated by Update Fitness.
SPS is convinced that the Schönburg in Bern will be an "attractive and groundbreaking project with national appeal. "For us as developers and designers of living spaces, the Schönburg Bern project offers all the ingredients to significantly enhance an area through an interesting concept. With the creation of new living space and a new hotel, we have also succeeded in meeting central and important needs of the city of Bern and its residents," says Peter Lehmann, CIO Swiss Prime Site.
