In the Loeb department stores in Berne and Biel, the Lidl discount chain will move into the basement with a full range of groceries and everyday goods. With the new tenant, Loeb says it is counting on "a high-frequency, growth-oriented partner.

In Biel, Lidl will start work in July on the expansion of the approximately 1,500 sqm area in the basement, while in Bern the tenant conversion of the approximately 2,000 sqm store in the two basement levels will start in spring 2022, the statement continues. The lease with Orell Füssli expires at the end of January 2022.

Loeb goes on to say that the discounter will integrate the interior design of the two stores harmoniously with the existing use of the buildings. The model for this is the approach taken at the Expansion of the city branch in the historic Fraumünster building in Zurich. (ah)
