Basel: New shopping centre near Euro-Airport
Unibail Rodamco Westfield is planning a shopping centre with around 60,000 sqm of retail space in the border triangle. The "3 Pays" project is to be built to the south of EAP Airport.

Unibail Rodamco Westfield (URW) plans to build a new shopping center at Euro-Airport between 2024 and 2025 at a cost of around 450 million euros. The working title is "3 Pays" - because with the new shopping centre URW wants to attract customers within a radius of around 100 km from the border triangle - Switzerland, Germany and France.
According to the company's preliminary plans, around 60,000 sqm of retail space will be created on a total area of around 80,000 sqm; the plan is to have around 130 to 150 shops, 25 restaurants and leisure facilities. Furthermore, there will be around 4,500 parking spaces. Of these, 1,500 parking spaces will be provided in an underground car park, the remainder in a multi-storey car park spatially linked to the centre. The center will be built according to the plans of Herault Arnod Architectes, whose concept won a competition in 2014.
How the Basler Zeitung (BZ) According to the latest report, URW and the French government have signed a preliminary contract for the development of the center, according to which an approx. 2 km long feeder road is to be built along the A35 motorway. In addition, the 3 tram to Basel is to be extended by just under a kilometre from the current terminus at Saint-Louis station to the new shopping centre. According to the BZ report, URW will bear most of the costs incurred.
The tenants have not yet been determined, but the rough orientation of the center has already been set: According to reports, the aim is to offer a high-quality range, but not in the luxury segment. Furthermore, brands that are not yet represented in the region are to be presented. URW is currently working on the building application. (bw)
