Migros had put Interio up for sale in June this year. With only eleven stores, the furniture retailer had not reached the critical size and had been suffering from declining sales figures for years in an intensified competitive environment, Migros said.

Six Interio locations will now be transferred to the Austrian XXXLutz Group in the course of the coming year. According to media reports, these are the stores in Dübendorf, Spreitenbach, Bern-Schönbühl, St. Gallen-Abtwil, Pratteln, and Emmen.

The company intends to continue operating the stores under the Mömax brand. For the remaining store locations, the company is negotiating with possible follow-up tenants or is still looking for solutions, Migros writes in a statement. No furniture stores will be operated under the Interio name in the future. Regardless of the sale, the store in Emmen will close at the end of February 2020, this had already been announced previously.

The handover is to be completed by the end of September 2020 at the latest. Until then, the eleven Interio stores and the online store will remain open. Migros intends to focus on the Micasa brand in the furniture market in the future. There are 37 Micasa stores across Switzerland. (ah)
