Landi, a subsidiary of Fenaco with 270 branches in Switzerland, has made an acquisition in Luxembourg and is thus expanding abroad for the first time.

As of 15 March 2020, the Fenaco cooperative has taken over an existing retail space in Luxembourg City from the Luxembourg agricultural cooperative DE Verband. As DE Verband is withdrawing from the retail trade from the location, "an interesting takeover opportunity" has arisen, Fenaco informs. Under the brand name Garden Center Plus, Landi Switzerland could thus test its store concept, which has been successful in Switzerland, in the European region. The new location is very easy to reach from Lahr in southern Germany, where Landi Switzerland has been operating a logistics centre (45,000 pallet spaces) together with ZG Raiffeisen since 2015.

The Landi store concept will be adopted unchanged in Luxembourg: the assortment mix of twelve categories with a focus on green products, the permanently low prices, the well-known private labels and the 5-year guarantee promise.

According to Landi, the takeover of a store outside its home market represents "an important milestone in building up knowledge and experience abroad - entirely in line with the strategic thrust of Compétence internationale." In order for the Fenaco cooperative to be able to continue to successfully manage its core tasks in the future, it is important to equip the high-turnover retail trade business unit for the future, the cooperative said. In the saturated and at the same time highly competitive Swiss retail market, growth is challenging. Landi currently has 270 stores in Switzerland. (bw)
