Migros tests mini stores
Migros Ostschweiz is testing a new shopping concept for rural areas in Bürglen in the canton of Thurgau: the stores are relatively small and located in highly frequented areas.
The new Migros Teo format is intended to meet the growing need for shopping opportunities outside regular store opening hours and in the immediate vicinity of one's own place of residence or work, Migros Ostschweiz says.
The pilot location in Bürglen (TG) is situated on the main axis between Bürglen and Weinfelden, does not require on-site sales staff, and offers a range of 800 everyday products on just 50 square meters. Customers can enter the store around the clock with all major debit and credit cards as well as the Cumulus QR code; payments are also made with bank cards, via Twint or the Migros payment system Subito Go.
"In rural areas, there is a need for shopping facilities in highly frequented locations, such as near train stations or along busy roads, whose range is available regardless of store opening hours, especially for everyday products," says Samuel Bauert, head of supermarket management at Migros Ostschweiz, explaining the new format.
