The Migros subsidiary Bike World is being sold to a Swiss bicycle manufacturer. However, it is not taking over all of the 16 locations.

Migros is selling its specialist retail subsidiary Bike World to the Swiss bicycle company Thömus. The bicycle manufacturer is taking over twelve of the chain's 16 locations. The locations will be rebranded as "Thömus Bike World" and are due to reopen on March 1 next year.

The new bicycle chain includes locations in Baden, Muri, Zuchwil, Pratteln, Ebikon, St. Gallen, Payerne, Romanel, Affoltern a. Albis, Schlieren, Volketswil and Wädenswil.

Four locations not part of the deal with Thömus

The locations not taken over by Thömus are Bike World Hinwil (Wässeristrasse 28) and Winterthur (Zürcherstrasse 1+3). It was also clear, independently of the sales process, that the branches in Vernier (Chemin de l'Etang 57) and Gland (Route Suisse 41) would cease operations.

Agreements for further Migros subsidiaries pending

Migros' entire specialist retail business is up for sale. The sales processes for the Micasa and Do it+Garden stores are still underway, according to the company. The sale of Melectronics to Mediamarkt was the first step in June. This was followed in November by the sale of SportX with 27 locations to Dosenbach-Ochsner. (aw)
