Designed by renowned architect Renzo Piano, the Torre Intesa Sanpaolo is one of the tallest buildings in Italy, with a height of 166 meters and 38 stories. As the new headquarters of the bank of the same name in the center of Turin, it provides space for more than 2,000 employees.

From the readers of Archdailythe world's most widely read online architecture portal, the project has now been named "Building of the Year 2016" in the office building category. The award is intended to honor building projects that set standards in architecture. The readers of Archdaily select the best buildings in a total of 14 categories from a list of hundreds of projects each year. Implenia built the "Torre" as a consortium partner of the Italian general contractor Rizzani de Eccher. After five years of construction, the tower was put into operation in 2014.

On the top floors, which are open to the public, there is a bioclimatic greenhouse as well as a garden restaurant, an exhibition hall and a terrace with a view over Turin. Solar panels are installed on the entire south façade, covering a large part of the building's energy needs. Groundwater is used to cool the offices in summer. (ah)
