Coop acquires fitness studio chain in eastern Switzerland
At the beginning of April 2016, Coop acquired a 51 percent stake in the update Fitness Group from Uzwil (SG). The company currently operates 19 fitness centers, making it the market leader in eastern Switzerland, according to its own information.
With the acquisition of the update Fitness Group, Coop wants to "gain a foothold in a dynamic and promising business segment. In the last ten years, customer demand for modern and health-oriented fitness centers has increased strongly in Switzerland, and currently more than one million Swiss have a fitness center subscription, with an upward trend.
