Steiner AG: Two major orders for new hospital buildings
Steiner AG has been awarded two major contracts in the field of hospital real estate. Steiner was selected as general contractor for the "Horizont" project at the Frauenfeld Cantonal Hospital, and the company is also building the new Riviera-Chablais Hospital in Rennaz.

The "Horizont" project in Frauenfeld comprises a new building for the operating theaters as well as a new, multi-story bed tower to be built on the tract with the operating theaters. In addition, extensive conversions and adaptations will be made to the existing hospital infrastructure. Work will begin in July 2016 and is expected to last until September 2020, with the opening of the new bed tower already planned for a year earlier, in August 2019. The construction volume of this major project amounts to CHF 160 million. It is thus one of the largest construction contracts ever awarded by the canton of Thurgau.
The client is the canton's own thurmed AG, the holding company of the Thurgau cantonal hospitals. Steiner AG is the general contractor for the entire project; the architecture is by Schneider & Schneider from Aarau.
HRC has a construction budget of 200 million
The new Riviera-Chablais Hospital (HRC) in Rennaz (VD) will replace the existing acute hospitals in Vevey (Samaritan and Providence hospitals), Montreux, Aigle and Monthey when it is completed and will in future provide basic medical care for 180,000 people in the cantons of Vaud and Valais. The project, with a construction sum of over CHF 200 million, will be realized over a period of around three years by Steiner AG.
Responsible for the project development was the Consortium HRC, under the leadership of the architects association Groupe-6 from Grenoble and GD architectes SA from Neuchâtel.
The heart of the new hospital, a three-story building with a total area of 67,000 square meters, will comprise a total of five wards: The first two floors will house administration, the outpatient clinic, logistics, the mother-child area and the technical platform (including emergency medicine, intensive care, operating rooms). The patient rooms are located on the top, third floor - a total of 300 beds are planned. The HRC will also have a restaurant with its own kitchen; outside, a parking area with 670 spaces will be created for employees and visitors.
Steiner began initial preparatory work as early as February 2016, and completion of the approximately three-year construction work for the new Riviera-Chablais hospital building is scheduled for December 2018. The official opening of the hospital will follow in March 2019. (ah)
