SIA elects new managing director
Joris Van Wezemael is to become the new managing director of the Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects (SIA). He succeeds Hans-Georg Bächtold, who will retire on June 30, 2018, after nine years in office.
PD Dr. Joris Van Wezemael holds a PhD in economic geography from the University of Zurich and a habilitation in architectural sociology from ETH Zurich. After a research stay in the UK, he headed the ETH Housing Forum and worked as a professor for settlement geography and spatial development at the University of Fribourg. He currently heads a real estate investment foundation of the Pensimo Group and teaches as a private lecturer at ETH Zurich.
The SIA Board of Directors elected Van Wezemael at its meeting on December 5, 2017. His predecessor, Hans-Georg Bächtold, will retire on June 30, 2018. He had led the SIA since 2009.
