Implenia wins infrastructure contract in Norway

Implenia and the Norwegian company Risa have been awarded a contract by the energy company Agder Energi. The contract is worth the equivalent of around CHF 70 million.

The consortium of Implenia and Risa is building a new dam and tunnel for the Langevatn reservoir in the Norwegian municipality of Åseral in Vest-Agder.

With a length of 210 meters and a maximum height of 40 meters, the new dam will double the capacity of the reservoir to 46 million cubic meters, Implenia says. The old dam will be dismantled.

As the transfer tunnel for the water masses between Lake Langevatn and Lake Nåvatn is endangered by rockfall, Implenia and Risa are building a new section of around seven kilometers of the transfer tunnel, 13 kilometers long in total, parallel to the existing tube. The current four tunnel inlets will be diverted into the new tunnel or rebuilt. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2020.

Implenia says the contract poses various challenges in terms of construction. Despite the reduced water level in Langevatn, water is expected throughout the construction site. In addition, the new tributaries to the transfer tunnel are being built in an open watercourse, so the water levels will change constantly.
