The "Real Estate Switzerland Age and Health" investment group was launched in December 2017; investments are made in properties in the area of age-appropriate and assisted living, in care facilities and healthcare properties. As of January 31, 2019, the investment group comprised a property portfolio with a total value of CHF 91.3 million with nearly 200 existing investors, according to AST Swiss Life. Net performance in 2018 was reportedly 5.18%.

The most recent acquisition in November 2018 was the Oase Rümlang senior center with age-appropriate apartments, an integrated residential care group and a shared infrastructure, the company added. In addition, promising acquisition opportunities for suitable properties had been identified. The upcoming opening is intended to finance the purchase of existing properties and construction projects, as well as to reduce debt financing, AST Swiss Life said. The subscription period runs from April 2 to 18, 2019.

"Life expectancy in Switzerland is constantly increasing: The proportion of people over 80 in the total population will rise from 6% today to 11% by 2050. In view of this development, the demand for age-appropriate housing is also growing," says Stephan Thaler, Managing Director of the Swiss Life Investment Foundation. The "Real Estate Switzerland - Age and Health" investment group will provide the necessary infrastructure and at the same time open up an attractive investment opportunity for institutional investors.

In 2018, the Swiss Life Investment Foundation increased its assets under management by 13 percent from 7.5 to 8.5 billion. According to its own figures, this makes it one of the six largest investment foundations in Switzerland. (ah)
