BKW takes over German architecture firm Ingenhoven
The Bernese energy company BKW has acquired the well-known German architectural firm Ingenhoven Architects through BKW Engineering.

Ingenhoven Architects was founded in 1985 by the renowned architect Christoph Ingenhoven. The office employs around 120 people, has its headquarters in Düsseldorf and further locations in St. Moritz, Sydney and Singapore. It is considered a pioneer in sustainable design and building planning to reduce emissions and energy consumption in large construction projects. Annual sales are in the low to mid double-digit millions, according to a BKW statement.
With the acquisition of the architecture firm, BKW Engineering is strengthening its position in the areas of general planning, ecological architecture, sustainable construction and energy efficiency, the company says. Sole shareholder and founder Christoph Ingenhoven - among other things a founding member of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) - will continue to assume responsibility for the office as Managing Director, Chairman and Design Principal.
Since its founding, Ingenhoven Architects has won more than 170 architectural awards, including the Global Holcim Award in 2006. Among other projects, the firm was responsible for the Swarovski headquarters in Männedorf and the RWE Tower in Essen, one of the world's first ecological high-rises. Current projects include the redesign of the inner-city center of Düsseldorf. (ah)
