In conversation with the daily advertiser Credit Suisse CEO Thomas Gottstein said that currently about 80% of staff are in home offices because of the Corona pandemic. "We expect 10 to 20 percent of staff to work from home in the future," Gottstein said. The bank could save about one-fifth of its office space, he said. Credit Suisse currently employs about 48,500 people.

The same can be heard from UBS: UBS expects up to one-third of its employees to be working from home in the medium term 20%. The pharmaceutical company Novartis had recently announced that it would offer employees the opportunity to work permanently in a home office even after the end of the Covid 19 pandemic. It is conceivable that the large campus in Basel could be increasingly leased to third parties.

Credit Suisse also announced that it would close 20 of its 120 branches across Switzerland. Overall, the big bank intends to save CHF 400 million a year with a savings program starting in 2022. (ah)
