Implenia closes sites in Graubünden

Construction group Implenia plans to close its Davos, Zernez, St. Moritz and Sils sites by the end of the year. The Chur site will be partially closed.

Implenia cites its strategy of focusing primarily on large and complex real estate and infrastructure projects in the future as the reason for its withdrawal from Graubünden. Business in Graubünden is strongly localized and mostly involves very small projects.

According to the construction group, there is also overcapacity in the seasonal business, which leads to great competitive pressure. For this reason, the production units for road construction, civil engineering and building construction at the sites in Chur, Davos, Zernez, St. Moritz and Sils are to close. Larger civil engineering projects in Graubünden will be managed from other locations in the future. Implenia will either continue to complete ongoing projects itself or hand them over to a partner company in the region. At the Chur site, Implenia will remain active in building construction as a total provider and turnkey contractor, e.g. as a general and total contractor.

The intended withdrawal affects 150 employees. As part of a consultation process, the aim is to find them either continued employment within the company or with a new employer, Implenia said. Where redundancies are unavoidable, a social plan will be implemented. (ah)
